Applied Forestry, a Central Oregon-based company, is owned and operated by Sam and Sara Cordell. With over 25 years of experience in forestry, Sam has cultivated a diverse skill set, starting as a youngster working for a local landscape company, Bend’s largest nursery, and engaging in tree planting during summers. His journey has encompassed various forestry roles, including lead sawyer (faller) with Prineville Hotshots, hazard tree removal at ski areas on Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood, wetland restoration, vegetation management on Mt. Hood, and falling high-risk hazard trees as a Pro Fire Faller during wildland fires and timber falling for commercial logging operations. Sara has also contributed significantly by expanding her expertise in pruning fruit trees while tending to their orchard and extensive gardens in the Hood River Valley for ten years.
As fourth-generation Oregonians, Sam and Sara have cherished their upbringing in Central Oregon, appreciating its abundant natural resources. Sam’s active involvement with organizations such as Trout Unlimited, Deschutes County Search and Rescue, and Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol from a young age underscores his profound connection to the outdoors and his commitment to positive environmental impact.
Sam holds the distinction of being an ISA Certified Arborist. When we assess your trees, rest assured that our recommendations prioritize their overall health and long-term vitality. We recognize that, in tree care, circumstances may arise where tree removal is necessary due to structural hazards or a desire for increased sunlight in your home or garden.
In their leisure time, Sam and Sara, along with their two boys, can often be found enjoying Central Oregon’s splendid trails through activities like running, Nordic skiing, and mountain biking. We look forward to serving you and your tree care needs.
