About

Applied Forestry is a forestry company in Central Oregon owned and operated by Sam and Sara Cordell.  In Sam’s 25 plus years working in forestry, he’s built an extraordinarily diverse skill set.  It all started as a kid working for a local landscape company, Bend’s largest nursery and some tree planting in the summers.  Over the years Sam has progressed into many aspects of forestry work, which include lead sawyer (faller) on Prineville Hotshots, hazard tree removal at ski areas on Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood, wetland restoration and vegetation management on Mt. Hood, falling high risk hazard trees as a Pro Fire Faller on wild land fires and timber falling for commercial logging operations.  As an ongoing partner with Sam, Sara really got to expand her knowledge of pruning fruit trees while caring for their orchard and extensive gardens for 10 years in the Hood River Valley.

As fourth-generation Oregonians, Sam and Sara have spent their upbringing here in Central Oregon enjoying the incredible natural resources.  Growing up Sam was fortunate to be very involved with organizations such as Trout Unlimited, Deschutes County Search and Rescue and Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol.  Let’s just say, Sam’s love for the outdoors is truly in his blood and leaving a positive impact on the environment is of the utmost importance to him.

Sam is an ISA Certified Arborist.  When we come evaluate your trees, you can count on advise that will be best for the overall health and longevity of the tree.  We also understand that sometimes in the tree care service, a tree needs to be removed for various reasons such as being a hazard to a structure or just wanting more sunshine let into your house or garden.

You’ll find Sam and Sara spending their free time running, nordic skiing and mt. biking with their two boys on the many amazing trails of Central Oregon!
